These poppies appeared from nowhere in my garden this summer, I waited patiently for the first flower then pounced with my camera! I've just learned that they are opium poppies, illegal to grow in many places (please don't tell anyone I have them, they're beautiful!!!)

The original watercolour is 14 x 10 inches on Fabriano extra white CP 140lb.

Thanks for looking!

beautiful work, the colors really "pop" too; the flower's stamen is amazingly detailed

i've heard of people getting them to grow from the seeds they've scavenged off their poppy seed cakes or bagels. i've also heard they don't become potent unless they're grown in hot dry conditions over a very long summer... like in afghanistan ;)

lovely work, by the way :D

Positively gorgeous, both the flowers and the painting!

But don't eat them :)
